A brand that has to travel

Consumer & industrial brands

A brand that works at home does not automatically travel. The category norms, the price architecture, the claims and the channel all change — and the launch materials have to change with them.

The problem

Brand owners face a sequencing problem that manufacturers do not. The research, the partner search and the creative work are usually bought from three suppliers at three different times, and by the time the materials are ready the distributor conversation has gone cold — or the materials arrive describing a positioning the market research has already contradicted.

There is a second problem specific to brands: the positioning that differentiates you at home may be occupied, meaningless or actively wrong in the target market. Premium against what? Natural compared with which alternative? The frame of reference is local.

What we do about it

We keep research, partner work and production in one engagement so they inform each other. What the channel says about price and claims goes straight into the materials; what the materials provoke goes back into the positioning.

A typical engagement

Every company is different, so this is a shape rather than a promise. It is the sequence most brand owners follow with us.

  1. Read the category — How the category is structured locally: price bands, pack formats, claim conventions, who the real competitors are and what shelf or channel access costs.
  2. Position for the market — The positioning restated in local terms — against the alternatives that actually exist there, at a price the architecture supports.
  3. Find the route — Distributor, importer, buying group or direct retail listing, mapped and screened, with the commercial expectations of each.
  4. Produce the launch set — Brochure, catalogue, sell-in deck and product video, in the market’s language, built around the commercial case a buyer will assess.
  5. Sell in — Approach, follow-up and negotiation support through listing or first order.
  6. Be findable — The digital presence a distributor or buyer checks before replying — and after.

What you end up with

  • A category and competitor read for the target market, with price architecture
  • A positioning statement expressed in local terms
  • A screened list of distributors, importers or retail buyers
  • A complete launch set: brochure, catalogue, sell-in deck and product video
  • Localised website or landing-page copy
  • Negotiation support through to listing or first order

Frequently asked questions

Do we have to change our positioning for every market?

Not the brand, but usually the frame. The same product can be the value option in one market and the premium one in another, and the claims that are routine at home can be restricted elsewhere. What changes is how the positioning is argued, not what the brand is.

Can you handle both the distributor search and the materials?

Yes — that is the reason to run them together. The materials are written with what the channel actually said about price, claims and format, which is difficult when the two are bought from different suppliers months apart.

What about regulated categories?

We map registration, labelling, testing and documentation requirements as part of the research stage, and flag where a specialist regulatory consultant or customs broker is needed. We will tell you what to ask them rather than pretend to be them.

Tell us the market you want to enter.

We reply within one business day with an honest view of whether — and how — we can help.
